Hydrogen-enriched saline attenuates TNFα and IL-6 mRNA expression in the liver and reduces serum TNFα and IL-6 levels in serum following liver ischemia reperfusion injury. Male Sprague Dawley rats were subject to partial warm liver ischemia/reperfusion injury with intraperitoneal injection of either normal saline or hydrogen enriched saline at dose of 10 ml/kg 10 minutes before reperfusion. (A) TNF-α and (B) IL-6 mRNA expression in the liver were measured by quantitative RT-PCR analysis at 2, 6, 12 and 24 hours after reperfusion and compared to the baseline levels prior to IRI.
