Enhanced hepatocyte damage in GC-C null mice after CCl 4 injection. TUNEL staining was used to examine the level of DNA fragmentation in hepatocyte nuclei in liver sections from Day 1 treated mice. Top. Representative photomicrographs are shown (magnification 200×). Bottom. The number of TUNEL-labeled nuclei was counted in 3 fields (magnification 200×) for each mouse and presented as the average. The median number of TUNEL-positive nuclei in GC-C KO liver was 4 times that in WT liver (**P = 0.005; N = 6-7 mice per group).
