Morphology and viability of IEC-6 cells in response to heat stress. Normal IEC-6 cells in control group (a). Cellular morphology was markedly altered following heat treatment (42 °C for 4 h), with changes in cell shape and a greater number of dead cells in the supernatant (b and c). This effect was attenuated by pretreating cells with JNK inhibitor SP600125 (d and e). IEC-6 cell viability gradually decreased over time and SP600125 had a positive effect on cell viability (f). It was measured by MTT assay, in which IEC-6 survival rate was calculated as percent OD570 of the untreated group (0 h).
